A House Fit for a Queen

Queen Mary's Doll House is arguably the most magnificent display of beauty, detail, and creativity of any dollhouse in history. King George V of the United Kingdom presented this house to Queen Mary in 1924 as a gift from the people of England to reveal to future generations how royalty lived during the early twentieth century.

Princess Marie Louise was the first to broach the idea of creating such a masterpiece with Sir Edwin Lutyens, one of England's top architects of the time. Taken by the notion, Lutyens immediately set forth on designing a house that would be fit for a queen, no expenses spared. He wanted to create a fully furnished miniature home that was accurate to items found in Windsor Castle, down to the finest detail.

Built at 1:12 scale and standing nearly three and a half feet high, the forty room doll house began to take shape. Lutyens employed artists and artisans to work on the interior. To provide an idea of the detail and care given to these rooms, they built a front foyer complete with a swirling staircase to the second floor, a library with walnut bookcases, a servant's pantry equipped with all modern conveniences of the day, and a Queen's bedroom with a four-poster bed, the night sky painted on the ceiling.

These little touches alone would be enough to make the Queen Mary's Doll House one of the most impressive miniatures ever created. Sir Lutyens had plans that were more ambitious.

He insisted it necessary that everything within the house be fully functional. He hired electricians to make every light and chandelier work, plumbers to make every toilet flush and tap run, and crafters to have the two elevators stop at every floor. He even went so far as to have a one-twelfth scale gramophone built to work as a normal one when played.

Sir Lutyens had talented furniture makers of the day make small replicas of the furniture found in Windsor Castle. He had all cupboards stocked with canned goods that bore logos of popular brands found in the real Queen's kitchen. He had linens, curtains, clothes, nursery toys, and rugs created to scale. The basement wine cellar contained miniature bottles of wine with real labels filled with a thimble's worth of the actual advertised wine. The lavatory even had its own roll of toilet paper.

Over one hundred and seventy writers, from Poet Laureate Robert Bridges to Rudyard Kipling, were commissioned to write miniature books for the Library. Well-known artists supplied watercolours and art for the Queen Mary's Doll House.

As the project ballooned, Sir Lutyens chaired a Dolls' House Committee to oversee all these artists, writers, and companies eager to lend there services to his vision.

No detail was forgotten. There was Royal Doulton and Wedgewood China, a Singer sewing machine in the linen room, utensils, ornaments, napkins, stamp albums, and a little snail crawling on a leaf in the garden.
By the end of the project, nearly fifteen hundred people were involved in the creation of the dollhouse. Queen Mary took great joy when she saw her gift, and ruled this house shared with everyone so that people might see and appreciate the ingenuity of the English people.

It made its first appearance in 1924 at the British Empire Exhibition, attracting two million visitors before it was relocated to Windsor Castle. There the dollhouse remains today for anyone to see and enjoy.

Bobby Riggs set the Aspen Sting - Aspen Hustle - Part Two

I was Bobby Riggs' Aspen Airways flight due in at 2:30, 27 July 1976 to comply. Aspen Airways was a small connector airline from Denver to Aspen. With only one runway 7,500 meters to 8,000 meters above sea level, only small and private planes were allowed to land there. Aspen Airways twin-engine turboprop flew small puddle-jumper to enable and continuously or as constant as the weather would do. In the days of storms usually have surrounded the mountain tops, until you finda hole in the clouds, and then rose rapidly to the bottom of the field. There was usually a traumatic event for newcomers, but a common place the locals. Even on a clear day mountain air could be a bumpy ride.

Fortunately, today was bright and sunny summer, not a cloud, only a slight breeze on the catwalk. It would probably be a landing a little 'bumpy for the passengers. When the small commercial flight lands and near the end, where there is dischargeThe passengers get out on the track to greet the people. Several young couples and happy first, then a rather small unkempt man of about fifty years, the more like an old hippie, see how the legendary tennis icon appears in the door. It looks a bit 'wobbly and down the stairs by a rather large, handsome and a half, buxom, thirty women. He wears a bright "Sugar Daddy" Perhaps the yellow shirt is a one-size fits all, but it's two sizes too small. Apotbelly turns out that his band should be. I was stunned. This was my big event?

"Mr. Riggs, Marv Moore are from the tennis club. We are so honored that you are here," I aspired and hoped that my disappointment was not evident. "I hope not to complete the flight and 'very nice to fly through the Rockies, but may be a little' difficult times."

"Nice to be here," he says, holding his hand. "This was Nurse Nancy. She takes care of me. We were pleased tothis trip. We've never been to Aspen. Thanks for the invitation. We'll have fun. "Fun! My God, this could be a fiasco!

"Nancy some concerns about my game at this level at my age, but I'm sure you get used to a few days before Sunday, he'll be OK." Nurse Nancy smiles.

Not what I expected. My heart sank further when he added fuel to my fears, "You know, I played a small show in Los Angeles last week and my elbow still hurts. Maybeit could be me as a good doctor, a shot of cortisone as I could. "

"Of course, Bobby." So that was my "Big Event" to open the club. My stomach upset. How could a man who falls in ruin as in so little time? It 'was only a few years since he was in charge of his tennis match against Billie Jean older.

My God, oh my! This is, as the third battle of the sexes began.

Aspen airport is located about 4 miles north of the city and how to go throughAspen I try my concerns by moving to Bobby and Nancy the nurse, a little history lesson.

"Aspen was an old mining town of Silver the years after 1800, and many of the buildings are original buildings, but have been carefully restored to their state of the Victorian era. I have accommodation for you in our apartment on the best tennis clubs, to the Roaring Fork River. But we are meals every night with some of the most influential people here to build the kind of enthusiasm forSunday dress. "Bobby does not seem too happy about it speak." This is the old Wheeler Opera House ... Hotel Jerome ... The Red Onion ... Ute City Bank ... It's not really a bank, but a fine restaurant ... This city has only 3,000 permanent residents now, but in 1880, was a large lot. It 'been wild and Honkytonk miners. We will discuss some of these points, another with a different group each evening meet, if you are. "I was not sure it was up toanything, but I did not want him to be a, so I plowed on, "Not everyone in town to meet you. The First National Bank is co-sponsoring the event and people from all parts of the state to observe the game. Many of them are already here, so lively.

'Bobby Riggs vs. Sally Huss, Sunday, July 31 in a battle of the sexes. "Only then will pass under a banner on the road to promote the event," Nice touch, Marv, "says Bobby, smiled gently as he rubbed the elbow .saw that he was controlling everything. Nurse Nancy sat in the back seat, there is no support he needed to give, I suppose.

"The tennis club is located on the south side of town to the Col independence and the Continental Divide at 12,000 feet," I would say anything to keep my eyes off my concerns.

Laps later, we entered the gates of stone funeral tennis club with our new logo in beautiful bronze announces his name embedded on a leaf with wood. Treesright. Mirror Lake on the left and behind the Roaring Fork.

"Here we are. A three bedroom luxury units, which is never still asleep already. It seems the club on the river and has a nice spa and sauna in the main tank. I would choose to join approximately 6 our mayor and event organizer for cocktails and dinner at the famous Crystal Palace. And 'a reference point and the best Aspen has to offer. Everyone is dying to meet you. "

"Marv, I might ask if off on that first evening. Thewould really appreciate it. I could really use the rest. "Nurse Nancy nods with satisfaction.

I felt at that point the game on Sunday was a wash and a mileage I could out of our investments would have before the event. I did not want to tax the guy, but I had people in line. "I hate to ask you this, Bobby, but even if only a brief appearance with this group could, things would be a good start. They are our most important supporters.'ll Back soonas I can. "

"OK, but I can not take a long time. I feel pretty weak. By the way, here is an envelope. I want you to do with it. It is a few dollars, I would like to bet on the side. Even money if you can beat me, says Sally. "

I hated to take people's money. It was obvious he was struggling just a concert, let alone win a game of tennis. I was completely confused. Now I have to be a bookmaker!

"One more thing, Marv, I could do a warm-up partnersAround 9? I really have to see how this amount will be me and see how my arm feels. Do not forget your doctor. Do not worry about Sunday, I'm fine! "

Do not worry? That's all I could do.

Law Firm Andy Stern was on the second floor of a beautifully restored Victorian building overlooking Main Street hosted. Shelves full of books and office furniture in dark skin filled the room. A Tiffany lamp or two added to the casual elegance. Andy, very elegant JerrySeinfeld-like in his mid-thirties, and son of former Davis Cup player Czechoslovakia was a fine player himself and could not wait for our project a success. It 'was decisive for the overall development of club tennis, running through the city, the agendas of the board and legal issues in all shapes and sizes. It was a bright star in Aspen and I had him, when darkness crossed our path. Today I need a little 'light.

Slide into the leather sofa in front of his desk and pushed asigh .. "Well, I took it and left the condo Club Frankly, I'm very concerned that he might be able to play for us, He looks overweight, out of shape and unhealthy, you can barely breathe. At this level or hold a tennis racket, because a sore elbow. He needs rest, a cortisone shot and a bookmaker! He gave me this envelope of money to any page on the set, if someone says Sally can actually beat him. I don 't know what to do about all this. I can not be his bookie, too! "

"Marv, relax, give me the envelope, I take care of him. Let's see what's inside."

Andy slices open the envelope and the contents can be poured over his desk. He shakes his head in disbelief. Hundreds of hundred dollar bills, $ 10,000 in all. Then he smiles and I also

"Marv, this is remarkable. The 58-year-old man arrives at this level, thinking they can beat Sally! Who play in recent weeks? Yes, all that male pro in the city and beat them all. With his heavy groundstrokes and serve large, has no chance. What, a few years older than Billie Jean? But she is in good shape. Going to be a great hero. Some of our premises to enjoy his money. Leave it to me. He gets his money aspect of $ 3,500, plus a chance for the carrot of cash prize of $ 1,000. What a goddess! "

It 'a small price to pay if it is presentable. It 'the "if", which is unpleasant for me. "Andy, I asked him a partner to beat eachDays to get used to the altitude. I think you should be. In this way we will know exactly what to expect. We may need to lighten I know Sally on Sunday. "

"Good idea." I feel a bit 'better when I leave the office of Andy.

Sally is preparing for the evening when I arrive at our SOD-roof ranch. I want to share my concerns, but I will not worry him. She is very sensitive. "Hello, darling. It 'finally here. I guess you could, in fact, have to wear itmake the game interesting. He is physically in good shape. I am a little 'concerned he can play well enough to the audience their money's worth - even if the event is free! Everyone knows that the thing in Colorado, and thousands will come in for them. "

"Do not worry, honey," she says, smiling happily. "It'll be fun!"

"Concern" and "fun" in my mind are mutually exclusive and can not completely get rid of me by the "concern". So 'fun' is not in question. I am what Ithis all started, the money invested in advertising and forums, as well as my friend spoke with the Bank co-sponsors of the event.

"He also tried to duck the first social event with the mayor tonight, but then decided to make a brief appearance."

"It 'fun to do," says Sally again. Sally was always fun, but I do not need to open a flop at the club.

The Crystal Palace came from the silver-mining heyday of Aspen. This is one of the original two-storeyBrick buildings, a work that is art restoration inside. That his name in honor of this big crystal chandeliers light bouncing everywhere. There are long, narrow dining tables, a large stage for the follies of entertainment and cuisine type. We invited all the local dignitaries to be the first of the great Bobby Riggs justice.

The building is jammed that night, like every night. Spread the word one admits that man is here. Everyone stands and applauds. Bobby fascinating stopsChat or sign autographs as we make our way to our reserved table. It 'hard to believe that an old-time tennis player may collect such admiration, but he made his reputation as a true moment of glory when he went up in flames on Billie Jean King. He played the role of the clown funny then. What role now? I think, "Okay, this is a good start!"

The phone rings in my office the next morning. My secretary Julie responses, indicating thatme.

"Hey, Andy, as the success rate is to go with Bobby, as is the verdict?" My fear was not yet resolved.

"Marv, you were right. 'State beat only 20 minutes and had to sit down. And' short of breath. He does not seem very well done and was spraying the ball everywhere. He could not, even with my rhythm. It 'was a real struggle to keep a rally going. He apologized profusely and said his sister wanted to take him to see the doctor to get some relief by the elbow. He just wanted to takeeasy the rest of the day. I agree with you that we could show a problem with a decent. It has a lot better than Sunday. It will meet again tomorrow. Let's see if it improves. He said that he and Nancy will be our dinner at the Ute City Bank. See you there. "This was. My fears were confirmed. The event could really be a disaster. So we have our best with people who were fun to do every night to make sure they had to dowe loved it, and think about what we were doing, as the club in question.

The Ute City Bank still seems the old silver mines of custody yesterday on the outside, but as the Crystal Palace, the interior has been lovingly restored into an elegant restaurant, including once with a cellar. The streets are full of tourists outside and many of them here for the big game. As we pull into the restaurant the crowd points and Bobby start and shouted: "Bobby Bobby Bobby!" and howhim on board the van has bullying. Everyone wants to talk to him, he found a male chauvinist pig boy, because he hit Billie Jean lost or Sally as she wanted. Inside the restaurant, you get the same attention, standing ovations, whistles, and some of the women in the room.

At the table he sat next to Sally. It 'the first time when they are met. His eyes twinkle behind his glasses and his smile a sparkle in designated "So, you're my date for Sunday, I heardwhat about you, Sally, from your old coach at the Tennis Club in Los Angeles, George Toley. And Billie Jean. He said he was 15 when he won the United States and Junior Wimbledon. It was his idol. The number one junior player in the world, then the semi-finals at Wimbledon next year, barely losing to Maria Bueno of Brazil. Now I feel that you have just beaten the number of four players on the tour Slims, Wendy Overton. Well done. Well done. I am very impressed with Sally. We had a lot of fun!

Failuresweet smile, maintaining its position. He was careful to receive his congratulations.

The mayor slips into the seat next to Bobby on the other side and engage in a conversation about golf. Andy and I sit in front of him and watching the proceedings with great interest. Andy leans over to me and whispers: "Marv, you will be happy to know that five different trailers Sally have already covered half the money Bobby We should have every Friday, is seen as easy money received ...I think they are right. If I were a gambling man, I would be a piece of himself. "

Bobby comes up and asks me: "Marv, Mayor Stevens asked here if I want something in the afternoon Friday, some of his friends, who use them for nine holes of golf than in Snowmass, he says, flying units long. To this altitude, 300 meters or more power. This is what I see. to help me settle a little 'faster. "

"Clearly, evil, not just Bobby. They are ourAttraction. "

"No problem, Marv. Another thing I wanted to say to you last night. I look forward to a double exhibition of tennis on Saturday to seek to build interest in Sunday. Maybe a couple of one-Setter with who you want.'d be my partner, things even out. Maybe it's interesting, every player can put up $ 250. winner-take-all. I'm going to cover you. It could be fun. Everyone wants to say , might have taken the money out of me. even fill the stands on Saturday, a bonusEvent. What do you think? "

I have been a very good player, but his chances of winning were slim to be with me as a partner against the best players in the city. Why me, again? He's only two days and that could cost him his money aspect and its own bankroll. I do not understand. But I liked the idea!

"I do not know what they think of this guy," I say to Sally, like coming home. "For a semi-ill, exhausted old man, still draws a certain amount. Andy told me thathis understanding that the mayor are the companions of golf "high rollers" in Las Vegas. This does not make me quite well. Like flies to honey.
Regardless of the city is buzzing and our event is really starting. I am very pleased that pumped a part. "

Sally smiled a smile, "Marv, I do not underestimate him by his hustles -... The game known for years with a frying pan or an ashtray instead of a left-handed bat Play Tie a chair leg and when the bet was on couldstill beat the boy. He is legendary for antics as the Tennis Club in Los Angeles. No matter what his condition is still a very fine tennis player. I'm going into this, as he is a very difficult opponent and is playing really hard. I would not be involved with him more than necessary until after the game, please. "

Andy and I usually meet for coffee and strudel every Friday. To Gretel, you have to take the chairlift Ajax in the summer. In winter there would always risethe first day of the chairlift and ski equipment at most, breaking the snow and Gretel halfway to the shelter for some of their famous, delicious baked goods. Here we summarize the Tennis Club building progress for the week. This was the life of a businessman in Aspen. Today was different.

"Well Andy, you took back with him this morning? He recovered from his flight and activities last night? If he did not hit better?"

"Marv, I'd say it was a bit 'onmore used. Hits the ball a little 'harder, but far below anything that Sally will give a real game. But I think he'll look good enough for the crowd. He is not yet able to handle my pace, but will be able to obtain two sets, certainly not three. "I feel a sense of relief. He continues:" Right as we finished our warm-up, the mayor and his friends showed up Vegas. They took a couple of golf-Snowmass. It seems that "fresh meat" for sharks to me. Apparently itfeel better. Argued enough. Incidentally, I have good news. Tom reports that the Bank will have a full house on Sunday. Branches across the country reported more than 1,000 new savings accounts already. At $ 5000 each, which is more than $ 5,000,000. You can bet the bank and we are very pleased 2,000 ticket holders on-the-art. Not bad. Not bad at all! They are from Denver, Colorado Springs, even as far away as Fort Collins. Congratulations, Marv. The event is already aHuge success. Stop worrying! "

I still shake my head. Bad news! Good news! What are the prospects?

Sally and I have Bobby and Nancy, for the clogged roads and crowded restaurant. The Red Onion is another relic from the restored 1800. It is not as noble as the Crystal Palace, but a great favorite among the locals. During the ski season, you must book in advance of a season, or you can also buy your way during your stay. Bobby seems in good spirits.Perhaps the action on the golf course has given him something good. I give a close up of Sally and decide, I'm finally enjoying the evening. Bobby is always nice car, chatting with everyone, shaking hands with the Scots and kiss on the cheeks of the ladies. Nurse Nancy keeps her eye on him, does not allow him to wander far from his side. More than a nurse, we can not say, but it is too good to just hand out pills for his bedside manner. Just like Nancy, the love of the masseshim.

Our guests tonight are a business from the hotels, restaurants, sporting good stores, boutiques, and jewelry. All of them were huge benefit to visit Bobby. I sit in front of Bobby, but Sally decides to stay as possible. Since the activity is soothing flattery, I lean to Bobby and ask: "How did the golf go today?"

"Marv, the two boys were with the mayor's true workhorses. The mayor is a good guy, but why are these two? They were serious golfers and serious players. "

Gad, I thought, more bad news: "What has happened?"

"Well, in just nine holes, I lost $ 1,500. I really have no chance. Not only did I feel great, but not the ball at that height, I think it will. Well, 'I have to double the Saturday after our show. I try to get my money back. At this rate, I can beat all the money you win against Sally lose. I do not feel too wellhours. I'd really like to cut early evening and return to the apartment and rest. I'm going to need a miracle tomorrow! Tell Andy that are double-sufficient warm-up for me, so I did not need him until about 10:00 Sunday Clock OK? "

Lift Kits, You're a Low-Life Without One

If your rig is still riding around at stock height, you need a lift--and fast. See, modern trucks are pretty much made for sporting a big set of rubber right off the assembly line. With the original donut size barely filling your wheel wells, your truck looks like an elephant standing on a stool. So, to fit the big tires that make your rig look right, you need more clearance, and that's exactly what a lift kit gives you. In short, your rig plus a lift kit plus big tires and wheels equals awesome.

Okay, so you're saying that the idea's great, but you're probably wondering how a lift kit gets it done without busting under pressure or causing other problems, the way your neighbor's homemade job did. A true lift kit modifies your truck's suspension in any number of ways, depending on your factory gear. If you have leaf springs in the rear, count on some add-a-leaf inserts to the pack. Coil springs, in front or rear, are usually replaced by taller springs, thick spring seat spacers or both. Torsion bar suspensions usually substitute longer bars or tuned torsion keys. Plus, you may end up with new control arms, a-arms and steering components that relate your new height to the stock handling feel.

Now that you know how a lift kit works, let's look at the bigger boys making these badass toys. This should make picking the parts of your project a bit easier. We'll start with one of the most recognizable names in lift kits: Skyjacker. Contrary to what you might think, the guys at Skyjacker aren't into hijacking planes at extreme heights. Rather, they make great lift kits with all-around capability. They're tough off-road, smooth on-road, and look clean everywhere. Next up is Rancho, a brand with plenty of cred in the truck world. Rancho is the off-road suspension arm of the same automotive giant that makes Monroe shocks, only Rancho parts are like Monroes on some kind of injectable substance pro athletes don't even know about yet. And then there's Trailmaster, a company that takes a careful approach to the design of each kit. You'll be grateful later when you're not pulling a defective part out of a cheapo lift kit and sending it back. Also, Trailmaster's shocks have quite a reputation.

Once you pick a kit from one of these choice brands, be sure to grab a pro installer for this job. You don't want your cousin's shaky 10-beer hands and rusty tools handling the fate of your rig's stability. As soon as the kit's in place, you'll be cruising any terrain, sitting level (most lift kits get rid of the factory rear rake), and lookin' mean. Parking barriers will provide the same resistance as a Twinkie. No hill or bump will ever high-center your rig. Nobody will want you to help them move (lifting a fridge an extra 6"-10" higher is a no-go). And, when traffic grinds to a stifled clog, you can make your own lane. In other words, you've been living too long without a lift kit already.

The View From the Kansas City Downtown Marriott - The Midland Theatre

Among Kansas City's finest places to stay, the Kansas City Downtown Marriott Hotel is near the Power and Light District, an extensive entertainment and dining area, and near the Sprint Center, an arena featuring a wide variety of concerts and other events. The Kansas City Marriott is also an American Royal hotel, providing easy access to the annual livestock show, rodeo and equestrian show held each year in September, October and November.

Among the attractions of downtown Kansas City are its historic structures, such as the Power and Light Building, Union Station, Municipal Auditorium and the Midland Theatre. The Midland is a 3,573-seat theater in the Power & Light District, now owned by AMC Theatres.

Completed in 1927 and costing $4 million - large sum in those days - the Midland Theatre remains the largest historic theater for 250 miles around. New York and Kansas City architects designed it, and the interior features the French and Italian Baroque style that was characteristic of once of its architects, Thomas W. Lamb.

The theater's exterior follows the Renaissance Revival style, with engaged pilaster, leaves, flowers and winged figures decorating cream glazed terra cotta brick. Above the copper and gold marquee, containing 3,600 light bulbs, rises a four-story arched window.

Recognized for its half-million feet of gold leaf, beautiful wood and plaster work and huge Czechoslovakian crystal chandeliers, the Loew's Midland, as it was known at the time, housed a Robert-Morgan theatre pipe organ, which was in use until after World War I. The arrival of talking motion pictures made it obsolete, along with the stage shows that had been popular before the rise of "talkies." Today, the organ can still be seen in the Kansas City Music Hall, just a few blocks away in Municipal Auditorium.

In 1966, AMC Theatres bought the Midland and operated it as a movie theater. Since 1981, it returned to its former use as a venue for stage plays and also hosted concerts, ballet and other events. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

September 2008 saw the reopening of the Midland after $28 million in renovations and is now a live entertainment nightclub. The marquee has been restored to its original glory. The building now contains a tiered open floor area on the main level, as well as bars, lounges and administrative offices on the other levels.

Preserving the past while celebrating the present and future is part of Kansas City's downtown renaissance, and the Midland Theatre is a perfect example of that approach. It holds on to the impressive architecture that marked the early years of the 20th century while finding uses for the structure that make it viable now and give it the ability to adapt to changing times.

Even if money I can beat, says Sally.

The Ute City Bank still seems like the old silver mines of custody yesterday on the outside, but as the Crystal Palace, the interior has been restored into a fine restaurant, including once with a cellar.

The mayor slips on the seat next to Bobby on the other side and engage in a conversation about golf.

Solar Lights: Get What You Want, Get What You Need

It 'been said that does not always get what you want, but you get what you need.

With a little 'planning, knowing what solar lights are available, and ease of maintenance, is solar powered lights to both what you want and what you need.

No matter what type of product, from cars to solar accent lighting, wise purchasing decisions, the proper use and care just half that you get the most out of what you buy.

Although it is true that the placement is solar lightsquite simple and require little maintenance, there are things to do to ensure that you get what you want from them.

Like many emerging technologies, solar lighting definitely one where you get what you pay for in terms of appearance, duration, product reliability, and quality of light.

But, you need different types of sunlight that are available to understand. For example, the illumination is sunlight from a completely different accent light emitted by tanning beds.Spotlights or headlights.

Understand what they want and need

Whether the addition of some solar lights to accent your property for the purposes or safety, you must set the style and the amount of light needed.

I think that will serve the function or purpose of the sunlight. It is often useful to draw a draft of your property and determine what are the existing lights and lighting where you need a new one.

Do not be fancy, justbe sure to look at things like bridges, roads, stairs, patios, walkways, shrubs and flower beds. The scheme would throw things, the shadows for most of the day, such as fences, trees or buildings.

The pencil on paper, to strong light sources exist, such as street lighting, solar lamps only when they see how to turn dark. If you put solar lighting accent, for example, in an area that is illuminated more from another source, it is likely that will not turn onNight.

Think about what things you want to highlight where you want solar lights for walkways, stairs or steps or areas where you need extra lighting for security or remote areas without electricity that is used for emergency lighting lighting. A good trick is you can be useful around your home in the early evening hours and on foot with a flashlight to see how the positioning of the light in different ways to different results.

This can help you plan your route andTypes of solar lights require, especially if you want a lot of lights, or if you are buying or building a new residence. And more and more people choose to get rid of their conventional electric lights and use solar energy light bulbs age, their use for lower bills and help the environment.

Read and store instructions that come with new solar lights

Yes, usually seems easy, but mounting the solar lights in a hurry or wrongthey may break and will void the warranty. In a few minutes to check the instructions when you open the package will save you time in the long run.

Read the instructions carefully before installing or installing solar lights. You should also save the instructions to the road in two years or so when the batteries need to be replaced, probably.

Solar lights store the sun for 2 days before use

Solar lights must be recharged in the sun2 days before use.

So if you get your lights on a Saturday and put it in the sun on Sunday and take him inside and closed Sunday evening. Let them "on" or off the night of Monday and Tuesday will be good without undue effort on the battery.

You can get by with less than one-off for the device and its batteries? Yes, but you are unduly burdensome on the batteries, their effectiveness on the road can reduce or shorten by two yearsLife cycle of most rechargeable batteries used in solar lights.

Install solar panels in sunny places

It seems obvious, but you'd be surprised what people, what could be the work.

The solar panels must be placed where they will be up to the sunlight throughout the day received. Shadows of houses, trees and other structures and cast move to extend throughout the day. Six hours of sunlight is usually sufficient for a "full-fee".

Being too much shade and your solar lampless efficient or less to work. A panel positioned correctly often means satisfaction or disappointment with how to make your solar lights. And the fewer obstacles between the sun and the solar panel, the better your solar lights will be made.

Also called "amorphous solar cells," those who work during cloudy or rainy days, must be placed in an area with little 'sun.

This means that if your property has a lot of solar light shade does not work for you? No, because manySolar lights are the cables between the module and solar lamp

If you want to put the focus sunlight into a shaded area, there are newer models of solar lights that light in a shaded area and the solar panel in the vicinity of the sun. This was a long series of launch for solar lights, lights, but it was recently designed in the last solar accent lamps accent.

Cables between the solar panel and lights are usuallyStandards for solar lamps, flood lights and building lights that line the inside of the outdoor facilities such as stables, barns, sheds, shelters, greenhouses, or light.

Solar water pumps, solar fountain, solar bird baths and combination / water fountains in the control cable between the sunlight and solar panels for flexibility. It should be noted that most solar fountains require constant sun, because there is no "downtime" for the battery to store energy.

SolarPumps, as they would like to create ponds, waterfalls and other outdoor water games, you're improving or not so dependent on their own as strong as a stand-alone wells because they are generally larger solar panels, more batteries. Since most water pumps are also cable between the bracket and the solar panel, this hardware can be hidden or removed a few meters from the pump.

Fixes Trouble-Shooting/Easy

If your sunlight does not reachobserved at sunset and you have the above tips, try the following:

Make sure that the solar lights not from any other source (like a bright electric street lighting) affects the way a solar sensor that makes them turn on the light at sunset is.
Check if the solar panel is not in shadow for most of the day. And "amorphous" solar panels that should work in cloudy or rainy days the sun again.
Make sure that the solar "switch to" lights on "whenhave one.
Check that the batteries are installed correctly. This is most easily accomplished with a double check the product manual solar lighting has come to do. If the batteries are installed correctly and properly, and they may need to be replaced.

Seasonal peaks in spring and autumn

In spring and autumn, make sure that solar systems clearly fall leaves and other debris are blowing agents.

It should also be careful when raking or leaf blowers do notDamages of any solar lighting or solar panels. Many people take solar lighting accent in the fall clean-up and put it back outside in spring, especially if they are working to recruit other people to grow.

When pollen is high, you should occasionally clean the solar panels, making a thick layer of pollen is not the capacity of solar panels to absorb the energy of the sun blocked. If you are in an area that has a lot of dust for a living, you want to see when the dustwell.

Spring is a good idea to check out the solar lights, and those taken during the winter and who stays out all year. And if you give support, make sure to remove the batteries and check carefully that the batteries with which devices.

For the valves that remain outside all year round (headlights, fog lamps or solar), spring a good time to ensure that the batteries work and support for damage caused by ice or hail, as a small controlto decipher.

If you work accidents and even light, can damage any sealing the transparent cover to minimize cracking. After changing the batteries, you can separate some clear caulk on the areas where you removed the batteries have been found. Although it is unlikely that the change would allow moisture dough right into high-quality devices that offer some reassurance to caulk.

Spring is also a good time to clean solar cells with a cotton cloth or cottonmoistened with alcohol or vinegar. Window glass and plastics for the solar lights can be cleaned with any glass cleaner. It also helps to use a very small amount of oil lamps on each metal, so be sure that oil is not on the solar cells to get the platter or plastic. Most of the non-vegetable oils can damage plastic or rubber materials.

Tips for winter

How can you keep away snow and ice from solar panels. If getting solar panels or solar lightsburied charges in sunlight for at least 6 hours before using it again to get maximum power with minimum wear on the solar components.

Snow plows, snow shovels and even damage to windows and solar panels. Since you (or who clear the snow) can not see, it's easy to do. If left alone all year round lights and know a storm is coming, you might want to take a stick and mark where the lights to prevent damage.

All solar fountains, pumps andother water features are to be inside during freezing temperatures, for any damage that the freezing water expands to protect themselves. This applies to all water games, not only powered by solar energy.

Try to get what you need

If you plan to buy lighting and solar lights right according to your needs, be careful when installing them, and a bit 'of time for maintenance during the year, you will get benefits from themthroughout the year.

Under the lights of lamps chandelier

I long for the chandelier lights. It hurt me like a princess under the lights with their arms wrapped around me the Prince feel. I wanted to hear the tinkling of glass as the wind gently. Odour of love and happiness in the air. Among these are mystical lights a woman feels like she is royalty free and dance all night, never missing a beat. I see myself as the woman who walks through the dream.

It 's like chandelier bulbs make me feel. Whenever I close my eyes at one of the moments and think of the fairy tale of passion and beauty. In fact, I make it a point to be under a chandelier. Like when I see one, I feel like a child who knows a secret trip to anyone else to go. This is a time in my life or the life of the rest, where I can dream of bliss, pure and simple. I can not think of every little 'detail, and make my own.

I like the dress will be great> Light bulbs Chandelier. The jewels are, as it develops along the grate to make shine like crystals in the chandelier lights. And soon take the shine of my eyes. The suit covered me with a secret like a chandelier lamps mysterious look. All around me I would find so near and yet out of reach on top of everything else.

My shoes would be perfect. They are not made of glass like Cinderella, but George, who would be as stunning. Every time you dancechandelier lamps illuminate and reflect on the delicate shoes that I have on me, remind us of his presence. And I would look in awe of me. I would be grateful for putting me and everyone around me in a trance, all that can last all night.

And the prince was so impressive that I can remember. He was a handsome man with me just in his eyes. I would shower with praise and will never leave my side. His arms are there to protect me andCradle of me. His broad shoulders are always ready, I need the support of my head. In it I'll find out how special I am in this world. To see him look at me that I have found a purpose in this world that I'm okay for me to make him happy. Even if only to see a dream, beautiful enough to make me smile the next time, if I may be in the last chandelier lamps.

I long for comfort on a day that I want. In my world, everyone else is too busy to worry aboutanyone. Under light chandelier that I am the world.

Binding of old books

Edgar, Oscar and Elizabeth Small

How many people have a new era in his life from reading a book. ~ Henry David Thoreau, Walden

For me it was not reading, but the reception of a book that marked a new era in my life. In the summer of 2000 is a boy, I had just met while studying in Paris for a weekend in London with a gift for me. No special occasion required a gift was meant as a sign of reflection. What I took fromThe crumpled paper bag that has served as a gift to wrap an old edition of the works of Edgar Allan Poe.

The look on my face must have been real dismay, because, though only known to me for 10 days, had chosen the perfect gift. Ancient book? Control. Favorite author? Control. French Connection? Control. (Preface of the book was written by Chateaubriand.) In a few of our conversations to this point I must mention my collection of old books in the grass, perhaps, as we hikedlibraries in the past 'Latin Quarter' of Paris. Armed with this tidbit has taken the time to a weekend otherwise wild and crazy in London had to find a book for me, and the first few seconds when I held the book in my hands, I realized a new era in my life was begun. I want to hang this guy better.

Fast forward a few years. The boy from Paris and I had married a few years when I got home and immediately noticed that our dog had rushed to the door to greet meback. We had just adopted Oscar from the local shelter, or "sent to reform school," as my husband calls it, and despite being fully grown since he was still towards the end of his puppyhood. In other words, it was all that could have chewing teeth. You know what I mean? I quickly realized that Oscar was not well, and I could hear the nails clicking on the wooden floor in the guest room.

That's the part where I tell you my collection of old books in the usualthe guest bedroom. When I finally have the courage to peek, I saw more precise than parade will be described. It was like the Tasmanian Devil and Cookie Monster across the room, had spun shredding, tearing, salivation and ribs on the road. Oscar was ruthless. Eight million dollars of Target Sat intact pillow on the bed, while patches of old books dragged across the ocean of Paris were poised like snowflakes. Voltaire, Proust, Racine, gone, gone, gone.Despite equal access to the latest books less sentimental value for me, he decided, to my most precious books, his canines sharp argument. Of kindness, happiness, or a short time, Oscar had shredded my precious book of Poe, even if the spine was cracked and come off, as he gnawed on it. Discipline doggie was the last thing on my mind, I fell like confetti sprinkled on the floor in tears. Oscar slipped out of the room with visions of the juvenile jail in his head, his tail between his legs.

Nowfast forward a few years. Her fragile books that have escaped the total destruction of Oscar-legged in the back seat of my car, and we want to respect our way of Elizabeth Klein in New Iberia. Elizabeth continues to Bayou Bindery, a businessman, I realized during the Louisiana Book Festival in October. With open mouth I have the before and after photos on display at the festival, because I honestly do not know that my books bargain could be restored. The dramatic pictures think Extreme-bookMakeover-made a believer of me and a few weeks later I was in Los Angeles 31, damaged books in tow.

The Bayou Bindery is located in a charming cottage in downtown New Iberia, and when I arrived the door was wide open to let in more daylight. Elizabeth makes bibliometric miracle in a work area clean and charming, photos and memories from friends and relatives, a beautiful chandelier and decorative bird themed functions occur. And even if the car isElizabeth is not where you live, you feel a bit 'like being at home. When you are done with elements appealing to the press calling the book in a corner, frame sewn on the floor, and the scalpel and other instruments to the wall on the business in hand.

After a quick look at my damaged goods, Elizabeth asks, "Do you have a dog?" She must have seen the cruel bite wounds. I tell the story of Oscar, has, among which the Book of Poe and the importance of it for me andmy husband. We decide which is the first that should go under the knife, especially when he tells me that his mentor (more about her later) had just restored the Poe family bible for an exhibition at the Library of Virginia.

Although at this point I like my book Poe must be restored to the Bayou Bindery hear, feel the bottom of my worries. Elizabeth asked me politely to what he asks all his clients nervous that it was "original" of the damaged books are being attacked: "DoYou want to look only to the book? Or do you want to be able to read reality and give to your children? "He was absolutely right, restored the book would do the most perfect Christmas gift for my husband. (Though not a surprise.)

And the magic of the work of Elizabeth is that the book is not retrieved a shiny, soulless, out beyond recognition. And 'the historical character of the fascinating book, only stronger. You can reverse the damage caused by aging innards of the book, or they canattach more cosmetic work as in the case of a dog. "I like working with my hands," he says, and is completely at hand, which dismantled a damaged book skillfully assess and address the underlying problems.

Coming off the covers and the spine to reveal the offending food or glue, that holds the wires or broken pages. Elizabeth explained that the books are often the result of the deterioration of the food that was too acidic, and are sometimes in old leafMusic as a book or a magazine cover. He banged a grain pasta will not only remove the old food, but serves as an acid-free adhesive to coat new fabric Japanese. When you sew the sides together is called again, Elizabeth manipulated their laundry with a needle and thread. Years of sewing clothes for their children is worth it.

I was like an old man of three years to ask: "What should I do?" for almost everything that caught my attention in bookbinding. Elizabeth spent the day with patienceexplain how to repair torn pages are missing (with weights and colors of fabric Eastern), leather-wrapped with the dog-mouth-shaped blocks (a process of smoothing, tapering a new piece of leather to fit the width of the old law ), or worn joints (crayons or watercolor pencils are used to match the color of the original). His vast knowledge and collection of tools led me to believe that the University has studied the craft and was a practitionerCraftsmen since then, I was amazed to discover that it is binding only started about ten years ago.

During a trip to visit her sister in Virginia, raised signs along the way a bookbinder of their curiosity, and soon Elizabeth works one-on-one with the binder, who became his mentor. She calls Jill Deiss Cat Tail Run Hand Bookbinding in Winchester, Virginia-champion tie and speaks of her with obvious respect and admiration. "I feel like I'm learning the correctWay. "Although formal training is over, see and learn more from Deiss. This year alone, has attended two courses in Masters Series at Cat Tail Run. Last spring, he learned to repair more than paper, and October was there to learn how to gold leaf on tools. (I will not spoil a surprise, but someone close to Elizabeth is the extraction, a book of exquisite gold leaf this Christmas. hurries his skills to new use!)

Sonever wanted to be an expert craftsman, have just found a new interest and ran with it. A friend of Elizabeth, once said. "Some people come into new projects and he stood on the edge and looked into the hole, but you just walk up and jump right in." And even if it is never a given, a bookbinder, is not exactly a shock. "I'm very task-oriented. I am an individual project." His other "projects" are a nursing career (after many years as a nurse, is now voluntary1 day per week at a hospital in Lafayette), and a school garden at the local elementary school. He beams to attend a real school, where because of the booming basil, the pesto made with the students, "and she loved him! It only proves that if you grow, will eat it. Or at least give it a chance."

We laughed in his work as a school, where he worked in the cellar-bound book repair department of the municipal library. Their instructions were: "Just blow something on tape andthem back into circulation. "Even then, he never thought he would continue to repair after book. And if you an avid reader, she has a collection of his old book. I said," Books speak to you at different times of your life. I like the books to come my way, and then I pass. "

With a steady stream of interesting books, which take the book binding, I do not really need to collect. He has recently worked on the Rough Riders Roosevelt, the McIlhenny familyCollection. (John Avery McIlhenny Tabasco Company, Cavalry Regiment of the left Roosevelt in 1898 to join.) Thoreau A company in California, sent her to Concord and Merrimack rivers weeks for the restoration. And 'particularly fond of the restoration of family Bibles, dating from the nineteenth century French prayer books, the locals send or Second World War battalion yearbooks, in waves that seem to come from binding.

A new project has come their way, as they strolled through the city after lunch. We leanedabout to be opened Bayou Teche Museum for a small preview, if the director is supposed to Elizabeth: "I was hoping you could stop something that I want to see .." When the museum with a huge dusty old book from the main host structure for Frederic restoration on the left, I thought: "Every city should be a bookbinder." Excited like a kid on Christmas morning, Elizabeth opened the ledger, once we're back in bookbinding read the names of the historic hotel in the pastGuests.

People have always asked: "What is the value of this book How much is it worth it?" But Elizabeth is not so much impressed with the monetary value, rarity or first edition-ness of the books. "For me it is interesting to know why people are so attached to them." Many of his customers are elderly people who want to love a book in good condition. "I feel the heritage in the work on these projects."

Elizabeth and her little bookbinding Bayou will now be among the greatThe players in history, when our book of Poe transmitted to the next generation. Garrison Keillor once said: "A book is a gift you can open again and again." And although this is not right for the book wonderfully fragile that I received in Paris, will surely be restored for a Christmas gift.
